A real bird's nest
As we begin our blog, let us tell you about a real bird's nest. This past spring, a pair of Eastern Phoebe's decided to build a nest on the ledge above our front door.
The nest was built quickly.
Soon there were little white eggs in it. Since it wasn't easy to see into the nest, Kevin would hold up a mirror and we were able to see what was going on in the nest.
Then the eggs hatched and the girls were fascinated that the chicks didn't have any feathers.
But soon, they had feathers and were quickly filling up the nest.
Then their little beaks and heads started to appear above the nest.
Finally the nest was overflowing! We didn't witness the chicks leaving the nest. One day we came home and they were gone.
This reminds us of our little family and that our children are growing, changing and will someday leave the "nest". I'm just thankful that it doesn't happen as quickly as it did with the Phoebe
chicks! By the way, the nest is now on display in the garage museum!
